Porto Cálem is a benchmark of Porto wines in Portugal. It was in 1859 that António Alves Cálem created the house Porto Cálem, which was dedicated only to wine exports to Brazil in exchange for exotic woods and through its own fleet. The reference to this activity is represented in the Porto Cálem brand logo, where a caravel represents this proud history. Porto Cálem was kept in the family for four generations being consecrated in the Premium Vintages, Late Bottled Vintages and Aged Tawny ranges. The first Vintage Port produced by Porto Cálem was the Vintage Port 1870 and the first prizes included Medals of Bordeaux, Marseilles and Brussels 1897 wine competitions. Since then, Porto Cálem wines have won important awards in the most important international wine competitions in Portugal, UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, USA, and Japan.
Winemaking:
Calém 30-Year-old Tawny is produced by the traditional Port method. The hand-picked grapes are destemmed and crushed before fermentation at controlled temperatures. The addition of spirit at the ideal moment sets the balance between the wine's sweetness and bouquet. The moment of fortification is chosen by the winemaker following strict control of fermentation temperatures and densities according to the vine variety, maturation stage and the final sweetness required. The final wine is obtained by the meticulous choice of wines among 8 and 34 years old of age to make the final blend that preserves the character and the charisma of this Cálem 30-year-old Tawny Port.
Grape Varieties:
Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão
Tasting Notes:
